Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty is an extensive surgical procedure which leads to flattening of the abdomen, removal of excessive fatty tissue and redundant parts of the skin and is aimed at strengthening the muscles of the abdominal wall.
Rapid changes of weight and at the same time circumference in the waist lead to the creation of a deformed and an unaesthetic abdomen. In the case of women, it most often occurs after a pregnancy or as a result of sudden loss of weight, which additionally worsens the appearance of the skin in this part of the body because its excess does not disappear along with adipose tissue. As a result, the skin is often distorted by stretch marks.
In the case where the excess of fatty tissue is significant, often apart from abdominoplasty, liposuction is performer as well.
Before the right incision, a suction pump is inserted, through which the subcutaneous adipose tissue is removed. If extensive skin reduction is planned, it is important to place the navel in the place where it was before the procedure.
First through an incision around the navel, free movement is ensured in relations to the surrounding tissue. Next, most often the surgeon performs a further incision leading to one hip bone to the other, over the pubic hairline. The skin is then separated from the abdominal wall, stretched towards the ribs and raised. This way, the muscles of the abdominal wall are directly exposed, next they are strengthened by gathering them and sewing in a new position. This ensures strengthening of the abdominal cavity and gives an effect of waist slimming.
Excessive amount of the skin is removed and an opening to which the navel is sewn is cut out. The postoperative wound is usually sewn in several layers, in most cases soluble seams are used. Suction drainage is placed under the skin and the abdominal wall is relieved with a special elastic compression bandage.
A long scar is created as a result of abdominoplasty and it is the price of achieving an effect of a flat abdomen. It can easily be hidden under underwear, as the cut is on the bikini line. The effects of abdominal surgery are usually very visible. In most cases, the result of surgery is permanent, especially if the patient uses a balanced diet and performs the recommended exercise. However, it does not mean that fat storage will not occur once again in the areas where the procedure was performed.
